We are Newfdawg......a family team composed of Murphy the 18 month old Newfoundland Dog; Jasmine, our 5 year old geogirl; and Kelly, late 30's, tire builder at the local Michelin Plant.
I heard about geocaching at work. It is amazing the topics that come up during breaks on a night shift, but Kim(girl at work) was telling us about her amazing little cousin/nephew/neighbor.....whatever, and I started to pay attention a little better when she went into his hobbies, and geocaching came up.
I have grown up around the gadget world. My Dad's Hamshack was always one of the largest rooms in the house. Both of my parents are Hams, and I am procrastinating, but studying Industry Canada's question bank so that I can at least get a basic license. My parents (VE1 MM and VE1 BIP) tell me they will pass along a 20metre rig if I can pass it.
On one particular visit with the parents, I recounted the story of the amazing cousin/nephew/neighbor and his terrific hobby. Dad pulls out an old Magellan GPS and says, "Well you can use this one until you get one of your own..." It turns out they have a couple of them that they use on the sailboat!
So our new obsession has been born. I'm not very good at this yet, but I really enjoy the hunt, and maybe that is what it is all about....... |
